This Sunday night two elite quartersbacks New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will face off against each other in a crucial game that will affect both teams playoff chances. This game wil be decided by the good and bad of these two potential hall of famers.
Brees has made a living in the NFL by making quick mental decisions, and making quick efficient passes. Despite only being 6’0″ Brees has no trouble seeing, and reading the defenses. This Sunday vs the Steelers Brees must release the ball quickly as the Steelers pass rush has improved over the past month. There are many things Brees does well that frustrates defenses, and one of those things is spreading the football around to multiple recievers. The Steelers defense back seven will have the difficult task of covering 4-5 reliable pass catchers on at least 25-30 plays. With Brees throwing quick passes the defense may be able jump some of those passes for interceptions. Brees is most effective when playing from the pocket, and pressure from the Steelers defense could get Brees out of rhythm and disrupt the gameplan.
Roethlisberger has struggled in the past two weeks. Roethlisberger this season has shown himself to be impressive against good quarterbacks this season such as Joe Flacco, and Andrew Luck throwing 12 touchdowns against the two. Facing another elite quarterback in Brees history shows Roethlisberger will have another great game. Roethlisberger over the past month has developed a rapport with receivers Martavis Bryant, and Markus Wheaton. The Saints are known for getting after the quarterback and Roethlisberger is known for holding on to the football for long periods of time. If Roethlisberger can release the ball in 3.5 seconds or less it will keep the pass rush off.
Brees and Roethlisberger will both be looking to put up big numbers this Sunday. Both of these quarterbacks have played in big games in the past and this Sunday game is no different. With both of these quarterbacks past 30, and both being 100 million dollar quarterbacks its clear the main goal for these two is to win a another super bowl. Sunday night both quarterbacks will take another big step toward that goal.
