The Steelers announced earlier today that veteran defensive line coach John Mitchell was been promoted to assistant head coach/defensive line. Mitchell has been with the team for 13 seasons, with 2007 being his 14th. He is the longest-tenured member of the Steelers’ coaching staff. He came to the Steelers as the defensive line coach in 1994. He will take the spot of Russ Grimm, the former assistant head coach/offensive line coach, who moved to the Arizona Cardinals this season after not getting the head coaching job with the Steelers. Mitchell, 55, is entering his 17th NFL season and 35th in coaching, including 15 years at the collegiate level and three in the United States Football League.
