John Clayton of ESPN is reporting in his rumor mill that the Steelers have an interest in former Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil for the teams open position as secondary coach.
Cecil would take over for Ray Horton, who left the club about a week ago to become the defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals.
It would be an interesting choice for the Steelers, as Cecil has been in a news an awful lot for not only heading up the Titans cheap shot defense, but also for his *ahem* gestures on the sidelines as well.
The “gesture” in question took place when the Titans played the Denver Broncos back on October 3rd this past season at LP Field.
During the game, Cecil gave NFL officials the middle-finger as he was protesting a neutral zone infraction call against one of his players.
Close-up video of Cecil was being aired at the time, and the finger was broadcast without editing. For his inappropriate action, he was fined $40,000 by the league.
It was announced on January 20th that Cecil would not be retained as the Titans’ defensive coordinator. His defense this past season saw the Titans rank 26th in total yards allowed and 29th against the pass in the 2010 season.
