After a terrible season where they allowed kickoff returns at a record pace, the Steelers made special teams coach Bob Ligashesky the scapegoat Thursday – firing him.
They allowed four kickoff return touchdowns, matching the 1998 Vikings for the most permitted by any team since 1994. The Steelers ranked 30th in kickoff coverage and 24th in punt return coverage.
Ligashesky, a former Pitt assistant, joins offensive line coach Larry Zierlein, who was canned on Wednesday on the unemployment line.

How he made it past the 4th kick return TD is a mystery. He should have been fired part way through the season. People didn’t seem to know their assignments (which is coaching). Ok, 1 or 2 -> maybee it is the players……but if it keeps happening and you are bringing in different players, then something is wrong with coaching your kick coverage unit.
The onside kick in the Chargers game was also unforgivable. You are up 35-21 with 5:48 left in the game and you don’t have your hands team in for a kickoff??????? The guy on the front line is an undrafted rookie free agent (Ryan Mundy)??? That is horrible coaching. I would have fired him after that call.
