The Steelers have brought back running back Carey Davis, signing him on Tuesday to a one-year deal. The deal came down after the team put rookie fullback Frank Summers on IR with a back injury. Davis knows the Steelers system, as he spent the past three seasons in Pittsburgh and has appeared in all but one of his 31 career games over four seasons with the Steelers.
A special teams contributor who can also man the fullback position, Davis has rushed for 103 yards on 29 carries to go along with 17 receptions for 76 yards for his career. The Steelers’ fifth-round pick in April’s draft, Summers had played in the first two games this season but was inactive for the Week 3 loss to Cincinnati.

I’m glad to see him back. Davis is a better blocking FB than Summers. As a bonus, Davis can play RB if needed, and he can catch. He shouldn’t have been cut in the first place. Even as a salary cap move, it was a penny-wise pound-foolish decision. Life just gave us a lucky “do over.” When Summers comes off IR, I hope the coaches have sense enough to keep Davis this time. Welcome back, Carey!

Whatever happened to Isaac Redman? How about giving him a shot to move the chains?

I like Redman too, Mark, but he is more of a RB than a FB. If Parker’s toe keeps him off the field, Mendenhall will get to carry the pigskin on Sunday, with the whole Steelers nation hoping he elevates his game. If Mendy doesn’t make the grade against S.Diego, I think Redman is a possible replacement. Since Mendy is a #1 pick, Tomlin has to give him every possible chance to succeed. Playing time depends on knowing your blocking assignments too, and I don’t know if Redman has the playbook and his blocking assignments down yet. But he ran with more authority than Mendy in preseason, and I hope he gets his chance to prove himself soon.

I totally agree. I, as well as everyone wants Rashard to play well. Sooner or later I believe the team is going to dress Redman though.

I too would love to see Isaac Redman given a shot. He’s such a powerfull runner, that he’d at least make one hell of a red zone back. I’m guessing he still needs to learn blocking and recieving better before he’s signed to the active roster, but once he does, I think we may be back to the glory days of good old ground and pound STEELERS FOOTBALL!!!
GO STEELERS!!!
