Ben Roethlisberger Comes Through Monday Just Fine, Ready for a Challenge in Week Two

Was it me, or as a Steeler fan were you holding your breath with each and every throw by Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger at MetLife Stadium on Monday night?

The 38-year-old was playing in his first game in a year, and while he wasn’t perfect, he was more than good enough in the Steelers 26-16 win over the Giants.

Roethlisberger said that his body as well as his reconstructed elbow were just fine, through very sore a day after the 10-point win.

Imagine the Steelers losing Ben again – that’s what the Broncos are going through on defense with the loss of Miller.

It seemed like against the Giants there were some early issues with timing, and as expected it took some time for him and his pass catchers to get on the same page.

Maybe his best pass was to rookie Chase Claypool, making an amazing sideline catch that reminded Steelers fans of a guy on the team that use to wear #84.

Overall Roethlisberger completed 21 of 32 attempts for 229 yards with three scores. He looked poised and comfortable in the pocket, another reason to be happy with how things went.

“There was rust early,” he said. “Even late, it’s not like I played perfectly. I looked at sometimes that I maybe got up in the pocket a little too quick or didn’t have the same feel in the pocket early on that I’m probably used to having.”

Let’s see Sunday if that pocket against Denver stays intact. If so, the Steelers have a golden opportunity to move to 2-0, and Ben has another shot to keep his progress moving forward from injury.
