Steelers OC Coach Mike Munchak Being Targeted by the Denver Broncos

In a season filled with plenty of turmoil already for the Steelers, who odds according to paddy power for 2019 get worse by the day, the team was told today that the Denver Broncos might be taking away offensive line coach Mike Munchak.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network tweeted out that the Broncos “have notified the Steelers of their intention to speak with respected OL coach Mike Munchak, whose contract is up. He has been in talks with Denver about a deal there. He impressed those in Denver in their HC search.”

The Broncos this week hired Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fango to be their new head coach after firing Vance Jospeh at the end of the season.

Losing Munchak would be a monster blow to this team which is already having a nightmare offseason with the issues surrounding star wide out Antonio Brown.

Munchak is incredibly popular among not only Steelers players but also franchise quarterback, who the team wants to sign to an extension this offseason.

If they lose Munchak, it will be interesting to see if Roethlisberger, seeing all the other issues the team is having, decides to not ink an extension and see instead what happens in 2019, his final year under contract to the team under his current deal.

Just a few days back Roethlisberger went very much to bat for Munchak to get a new deal and for the team to keep him here.

“I pray that fans write as many letters as they can to Mr. [Art] Rooney to keep Coach Munchak around,” Roethlisberger said about the situation with the teams’ O-line coach.

“He’s such a special coach. When the linemen are happy and love to play for their coach, they play better.”

The 58-year-old Steelers coach has been around the NFL for quite awhile, as he’s coached in the league for more than 20 years.

He worked his way to becoming the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, going 22-26 as the head coach of the Titans from 2011-13.

He was hired by the Steelers in January 2014 and spent the last five years as the team’s offensive line coach.

Based on what has already happened this offseason and the comments from the teams’ franchise quarterback, it would be in the best interest of the Steelers to do whatever they can to get Munchak back in the fold.

Already enough bad things have happened as 2019 has started, the team can’t allow things to get much worse.
