The Steelers look like they might be dealing with their first big injury of the 07 season, as wide out Hines Ward suffered what was called a bone bruise in his leg during Sunday’s pounding of the 49’ers. The injury took place in the third quarter when he was hit hard on a play by SF safety Mark Roman. Ward didn’t play in the 4th quarter, and left the teams locker room with two minutes left in the game in street clothes.
Ward was not involved much in the game plan Sunday, as he had just one catch for two yards and a run on a direct snap for seven yards. “There will be further tests and we’ll have more information on that area later on,” said Tomlin, who did not disclose if Ward hurt his left or right leg. The Steelers are 3-0, but cannot afford too many injuries to playmakers like Ward. For this week though, Ben Roethlisberger thinks the team will have enough to overcome if Ward misses much playing time. “We’ve got enough guys that we can keep going with the offense,” Roethlisberger said. “Obviously, we’d like to have Hines out there and we miss him out there, but we’ve got enough guys that we can go if we need to.”
