The Pittsburgh Steelers have selected defensive tackle Javon Hargrave with the 89th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Hargrave played at South Carolina State and had an INCREDIBLE 2015 season.
Hargrave recorded 13.5 sacks in 2015 and is a very talented and physical athlete. He could end up being the main starter on defense if former sixth-round pick Dan McCullers is not producing well.
He has phenomenal speed for a 300 pound athlete and is quite powerful. He will fit the Steelers’ defensive scheme quite well. Hargrave and McCullers will be competing for the starting role.

Even though Andrew Billings was still on the board, reports surfaced that he had problems with his knee. Hargrave has a lot of promise and could be a talented defensive tackle in the NFL. He is very raw but his versatility is a key attribute to watch in 2016.

The Steelers needed help in the secondary and they got it with Artie Burns , and Sean Davis . They needed help with defensive line depth and they got that as well with Javon Hargrave who will put the heat on big Dan McCullers . Three solid picks who should provide a boost to an ailing defense . I was frustrated with the Steelers losing William Jackson to the Bengals , but with some good coaching , Artie Burns has the potential to be a good corner , so lets not write this kid off before he ever gets started . We owe him that much .

Agreed, I liked Artie Burns and wanted him over McKenzie.

An acceptable pick, but another “raw talent” that must be developed quickly — that makes three in a row. In effect, Hargrave is our “consolation prize” for not choosing Clark, Nkemdiche, or Vernon Butler in Round 1. Coach Butler had better be darn good at developing talent, because Burns, Davis, and Hargrave will have to play at some point in the 2016 season, and, at this moment, all three are far from being NFL ready.

Just who I wanted in the 3rd and loved what coach Mitchell had to say about him.
How handy would that extra 3rd have been to have been able to double dip with Hargraves and Billings. To bad it didn’t happen.
