The Steelers may have won the battle in St.Louis on Sunday, beating the Rams 12-6, but in the end may have very much lost the war.
And possibly the season.
With one sack of QB Ben Roethlisberger in the third quarter the Steelers lost their franchise quarterback with that appears to be a serious knee injury. There’s no use speculating on the injury, other than to say it looks like the Steelers will be without him for quite some time – possibly the season.
Roethlisberger and the Steelers had been dominating the game in terms of numbers, but when he went down the team had just a 9-3 lead. Ben was 20-for-24 for 192 yards and an interception. He was also sacked three times.
Michael Vick was 5-for-6 for 38 yards in relief, and after a Will Allen pick at midfield was able to drive the team to a Josh Scobee field goal to make it a 12-6 game.
St.Louis had one last shot, but a 4th-and-6 play to Kenny Britt was incomplete after it was determined the ball had hit the turf when Britt came down trying to make the grab.
Le’Veon Bell playing in his first game after being suspended, had 20 carries for 62 yards with the games only touchdown. He also had a big day receiving with 7 catches for 70 yards.
The Steelers overall didn’t rush the ball very well, as they ran for just 70 yards with a 2.9 yards per carry average. The Rams had 62 yards on the day on the ground.
On defense the Steelers held Rams Foles to just 19-for-28 passing for 197 yards with an interception. He also missed a number of times to open wide out that’s bailed out the Steelers.
The Steelers offense tried from the start to go quickly and spread out the Rams, and they were able to drive down the field for a short 21-yard field goal to make it 3-0.
Bell scored two minutes into the second quarter to make it 9-0, and it appeared even after the Steelers were not able to get the 2-point conversion it wouldn’t matter.
Little did they know the fate that was coming their way in terms of their quarterback.
The Steelers will play at home Thursday against the rival Ravens at 8:30pm.

I just don’t understand why other elite QBS get to have elite LTS and LGS and why we have a7th round draft pick protecting his blind side and an undrafted dude protecting his interior blind side. When beachum ended needing to be literally babysat, it opened up wide open blitz lanes which wouldn’t have otherwise been there if we had someone who does not get manhandled. Everytime the steelers play a stout front 4 in a 4-3 with an undersized but extremely athletic 3-technique, BB always gets pressured, yet, it didn’t seem like there was any contingency plan to atone for this such as run the ball more, screen pass, short passes. Etc. it happens EVERY TIME it’s just that his time it cost us our qb. We been playing with house money too often in terms of not being prepared to play against quickish interior d linemen and it finally caught up to us. You can’t put a garbage left side of an o line out there year after year and expect QB to be healthy long term. Why doesn’t our front office and coaching staff LEARN?!?!? Oh, and why again no Boykin?!?!?! Even in the rare event that BB Is okay and only out for a few weeks, there still no,excuse to both bring back that horrendous left side of an o line back for next year AND ignore an elite franchise left tackle in the draft!

The Pittsburgh Steelers 2015 season hinges on the MRI that will be taken of Bens knee . Its just as simple as that . If its a sprain , he and the team still have a chance . If its worse case scenario , and its a ligament tear , the Steelers are done , you can stick a fork in them . The play that Ben was hurt on was a routine play with a guy falling down and his momentum carried him into the side of Bens leg . Nothing dirty or underhanded , its just football . With that being said , there is still enough talent on offense with Bell , Brown and Miller , that the team will be competitive , but as far as a Super Bowl run , thats not happening in 2015 . One other observation . Will someone please explain why we traded a 5th round draft pick for a starting cornerback , namely one Brandon Boykin , and this guy is standing on the sidelines three games into the season ? We needed help at the position and this guy was a better than average player for the Eagles . This makes no sense whatsoever .
