Steelers WR Martavis Bryant Adds 10 Pounds to Get Ready for 2015

Wild Card Playoffs - Baltimore Ravens v Pittsburgh Steelers

Steelers wide out Martavis Bryant is one player that fans seem most excited about. He missed the first six games last year and then shined the rest of the season, pulling in 26 passes for 549 yards and eight touchdowns.

With Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton, Bryant and Heath Miller, the Steelers passing game is in very good hands entering 2015.

Back to Bryant, the 6-foot-4 receiver appears to be on the verge of being the number two WR on the team, and NFL.com reports he’s putting on more weight to get ready.

Bryant bulked up, adding 10 pounds from his rookie weight and is now a robust 225. Or as teammate Tajh Boyd called him: “swole.”

“Everyone gets bigger and better every year,” Bryant said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I wanted to make sure I got better. I didn’t want to slack off or become complacent. I had some things I wanted to get done in the offseason, so I went to work.”

Player X gained/lost weight while looking to improve/bounce back is one of the classic offseason tropes.

But it’s noteworthy in Bryant’s case in that he will be asked to shoulder more of the load this season.

A bigger and better Bryant in the offense the Steelers play sounds like a winner. He needs to have the ability to break more tackles and get off the line of scrimmage against bump and run corners.

Let’s see if he can use that new weight to his advantage once camp starts in July.
