Former Bills running back Karlos Williams, who worked out for Jets, also recently worked out for Steelers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Williams was recently cut by the Bills after he had gained weight. Williams was also suspended by the NFL for violating the substance abuse policy.
He was a fifth-round pick of the Bills back in 2015, and rushed for 517 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games. With the suspension of running back Le’Veon Bell looming – it’s not a bad idea to work out players that could potentially come in and help the franchise.

Suspended by the league for substance abuse ? No thanks , the Steelers have had more than their fair share of that .

Good point, DaveB, but beyond the questions about his past, this is still a curious move. If we are working out Karlos Williams, what does this tell us about our current backfield? Would he be insurance for Bell (fragile) and DeAngelo Williams (age 33)? Or is Bell’s knee not fully recovered? Or is there a more immediate problem? The article suggests he would be signed as a stop-gap measure during Bell’s suspension (3 games) — but does that make sense? If so, what does that say about Richardson, Stingily, and Toussaint?
