George Atallah, the assistant executive director of external affairs for the NFLPA, spoke to Ed Bouchette of the Post-Gazette, and said it was Harrison’s choice if he wanted to speak to the NFL or not.
“Every individual player has the right to decide how they will proceed with his individual case,” Atallah said. “We’re not suggesting he do one thing over another. James is a veteran who has been a strong philosophical proponent of what we’re trying to do throughout his career.”
“We firmly stand behind James, we think he’s a tremendous player, leader and strong when it comes to the philosophy of our union and the rights we work hard to protect.
“From our vantage point, this is nothing new. Under this regime, the NFL has attempted to impose their will whichever way they want and the union has been the only entity that stands in their way.”
Four NFL players are facing discipline if they don’t agree to meet with the league by August 25th – Harrison, Packers linebackers Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers, and free agent LB Mike Neal.
