While it was simply ridiculous for the NFL to fine Steelers DE Cam Heyward for wearing eye black to honor his late father, ESPN reports the NFL and Heyward have come to a deal on the fines he’s been getting.
The league is going to reduce his fine with a stipulation that the defensive end represent his father in other ways.
ESPN reports that Heyward and the league went back and forth on a conference call over the first fine, which was $5,787 for wearing the eye black during the Steelers Monday night win a week ago over the Chargers in San Diego.
Heyward wore the eye black Sunday against the Cardinals, which would have been a $11,576 fine for a second offense. The report says that the fines are ‘significantly less.’
The defensive end put out an update on the eye black situation tonight on Facebook.
