Running back situation It came as little surprise that Le’Veon Bell was not involved in the first few series after mentioning several times on Saturday that his right knee is still not at 100 percent. Despite that, Bell also made it clear he feels good overall, saying, “This is easily the best I have ever felt. I am in the best condition I have ever been in my life so I am excited.” That left DeAngelo Williams taking the most snaps in drills with Josh Harris and Dri Archer (in that order) getting into the action. Without the pads, it’s difficult to say which of the three will be bruising through defensive contact at this point, but Williams’ adjustment to a lower playing weight demonstrated a good burst of speed. Before practice, Archer was questioned about where he saw himself in 2015. “That’s not my job to decide,” Archer responded in regards to this being a make-or-break season. “I’m just trying to get better and just help the team.” As for where he thinks he can improve, Archer admitted that reading blocks and learning the proper assignments will help him perfect his game. Archer worked on his return abilities in the offseason and has yet to show if he’ll take on the additional task on top of rushing duties. As for where he plays, Archer said, “It doesn’t really matter to me as long as I have the ball in my hands…I’m one of those guys who likes the ball in my hands.” While Williams, Harris and Archer all participated in receiving drills, they showed why Bell is the better receiver out of the backfield. The third running back position will be up for grabs on Wednesday when the trio finally put on their gear and go full speed. Bell is likely to become more heavily involved at that time as well.
