Steelers To Put In Bid On 2023 Super Bowl

Steelers President Art Rooney II would like to see that happen, and has submitted an application to the NFL for Pittsburgh to be under consideration, Teresa Varley of Steelers.com reports.

The Steelers presented the application at the NFL League Meeting in May in San Francisco, which is the first step in the process and does not guarantee an opportunity to bid on the game. The success of Super Bowl XLVIII in New York/New Jersey, the first game played outdoors in a Northern climate, has opened the door for other Northern cities to host the Super Bowl.

“We met this morning with local community leaders to provide an update on formally submitting our application to the NFL to bid for Super Bowl LVII in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania,” said Rooney in a statement. “The application is an early step in the bidding process, and we will continue to meet with representatives of the Mayor’s Office, County Executive’s Office, VisitPittsburgh, Allegheny Conference as well as other community leaders to review the requirements with the hopes of submitting our bid to host Super Bowl LVII in 2023.”

The NFL reviews all applications, and will meet with cities interested in 2018 to discuss logistics and venues available, which would have to include things such as the Convention Center. To prepare for that meeting the Steelers are researching other regions, including sending representatives to Northern cities that have already hosted the game.
