Back during the Cowboys era of dominance with the likes of Emmitt Smith and Troy Akiman, a team popped up known as ‘Triplets’ meaning a team with a threesome of a very good quarterback, running back and wide out.
Akiman, Smith and Michael Irvin are three Hall of Fame players who were great in their time and helped the Cowboys win three Super Bowls.
The Steelers have a very good threesome on their hands as they get set to tackle the 2015 season – with Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown, the sky is the limit for this team in terms of their offense.
How good is this current NFL ‘triplet’ combo?
According to NFL.com analyst Dave Dameshek, they are the best in the NFL – as he broke down a ranking of all 32 NFL teams and their ‘triplet’ combos.
Here’s what Dameshek had to say about the Steelers threesome.
1) Pittsburgh Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell & Antonio Brown
Previous rank: No. 1
Over the last two seasons, Brown has been, at worst, the second-best WR in the NFL (239 receptions!). In 2014, Bell was, at worst, the second-best RB, while Roethlisberger had, at worst, the third-best season among QBs. Add ’em all up, and it’s tough to argue anything other than this trio* being, at worst, the best.
*As we learned in last January’s wild-card game vs. Baltimore, removing one of said trio limits the production of the remaining two.
As far as the other three AFC North teams – the Bengals are ranked 16th, the Ravens 17th, and the Browns – ouch – 32nd – last in all the NFL.
