Steelers Nation News
- Pittsburgh Steelers President Art Rooney II would love for his team to be a part of the international expansion of the National Football League. Rooney, a member of the International Committee, spent part of his time during recent league meetings in discussion about how the league is represented globally and said, “part of taking NFL football to another country is something in which we have a keen interest.” The NFL has been making strides to improve its image and fan-base in countries outside of the United States with their International Series. In a 1960 exhibition game, the Steelers played the Canadian Football League’s Argonauts in Toronto followed up by a trip to Montreal in 1969 to play the New York Giants in Chuck Noll’s rookie coaching season. Other places outside the U.S. that the Steelers have made an appearance include: Barcelona (Spain), Tokyo (Japan), Dublin (Ireland), Mexico City (Mexico) and London (England, UK).
- The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to sign safety Gerod Holliman, a 2015 NFL Draft selection (7th round) out of Louisville.
- Kudos to the Steelers’ Public Relations staff of Burt Lauten, Ryan Scarpino and Dom Rinelli for their nomination for the Pete Rozelle Award. The award recognizes media relations teams who “consistently strive for excellence in its dealings and relationships with the media.” The Steelers won the award in 1991 – the year after the award was created.
- Hang on Hines Ward fans! The well-respected former Steelers receiver will be on reality television once again, but this time he’ll be dancing a bit differently. Ward and his wife, Lindsey, as well as their son Jaden are to be featured on ABC network’s “Celebrity Wife Swap” on Wednesday, May 27th. Ward will be swapping with actor Verne Troyer, known for his role in the Austin Powers movies as “Mini-Me”. It should prove very interesting to see how many smiles Ward has this time around.
