In every game there are always matchups that will decide the outcome of the game. This Sunday at Heinz Field, the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints will need significant impact from key players. Here are my three key matchups for the Steelers vs Saints.
Antonio Brown vs. Keenan Lewis:
Lewis, a former Steeler, has emerged as the top cover corner for the Saints, while Brown has emerged as the top pass-catching wide receiver for the Steelers. Lewis posseses a size and strength advantage at 6’1″, 208 pounds over Brown (5’10”, 184 pounds). In every game thus far this season, Brown has shown he has the advantage in quickness and speed.
Defensive End Cameron Jordan vs. Steelers’ Offensive Tackles:
Jordan has proven with 26.5 sacks that he knows how to cause havoc for the offensive line and quarterbacks. Tackles Kelvin Beachum and Marcus Gilbert will have the task of blocking Jordan in one-on-one situations. Gilbert and Beachum both have had an up and down season thus far dealing with certain defensive schemes. In games verses the Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans, Beachum and Gilbert played extremely well.
Jimmy Graham vs. Steelers’ Defensive Secondary:
Graham has caused major problems for defensive secondaries because he is 6’7″, 250 pounds, posseses great speed and hands. With Ike Taylor returning as well as Troy Polamalu, their efforts will be needed greatly. The secondary will need to challenge Graham physically within the first five yards of each pass play.
