Steelers Opponent Profile: Will Reggie Wayne Go Or No

 

The number one question for the Indianapolis Colts right now is will Reggie Wayne play this Sunday vs the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wayne brings much value to this team, but if he cannot go they have quality depth behind him.

The Indianapolis Star reported Reggie Wayne’s MRI revealed no serious damage. Head coach Chuck Pagano has said, “It’s day to day with Reggie.” If Wayne is not able to play, the Colts will turn to former Super Bowl champion receiver Hakeem Nicks. Nicks is a physical receiver who can beat press coverage and burn cornerbacks downfield. Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback William Gay will be assigned to cover either Wayne or Nicks.  That will require Cortez Allen and Brice McCain to step up their coverage as well in week eight.

Wayne is more of a possession receiver than Nicks, considering Nicks is younger. Wayne is a steady and more consistent receiver than Nicks. With Wayne’s shoulder injury it will be hard for him to beat press coverage. Gay should be prepared to cover press and zone coverage quite a bit.
