Grade B-: Although quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was effective in the game, he got caught holding the ball too long and paid for it with two sacks, one resulting in a strip that J.J. Watt recovered. Roethlisberger was also the target of Watt later in the game in what could have been considered a late hit (the ball had already left his hands) and reacted in frustration on the field. After the game, the duo could be seen shaking hands. It’s football. Roethlisberger was a leader, and if Todd Haley’s statements prior to the game about there being around 28 percent of the calls being made by “Big Ben”, it appeared that after the slow start, Roethlisberger took advantage of mismatches in the Texans defense and got the offense rolling.
“I thought we did a lot of good things,” Roethlisberger admitted following the game. “Offensively, I think we need to do better, and that starts with me. I’ll evaluate trying to get better. I think each man on offense will evaluate what they need to do. I would tell you that everybody on offense would tell you we can all do better.”
