After watching Cortez Allen give up big play after big play, the Steelers are making a change at the corner spot, as they will go with free-agent pickup Brice McCain against the Texans Monday night.
Last week Allen was the main cause of the 51-yard touchdown that Browns TE Jordan Cameron scored against the Steelers during Cleveland’s 31-10 route of the black and gold.
Pro Football Focus ranks Allen dead last among all cornerbacks in 2014, which is alarming considering of the huge contract he got this offseason.
“Sometimes, there are ups and downs out there. I have great confidence that he’ll fight himself through this and be a very strong player,” LeBeau said.
McCain was on the field for 11 plays vs the Browns last week, and had the big play in the win over the Jaguars two weeks ago, a pick six that made it a 17-9 game.

I don’t know if McCain is better than Allen. I hope he is. But I’m certain that if we don’t put more pressure on opposing QBs, it won’t make any difference who is playing CB.

Doc, what do you think of this, someone recently told me I was engaging in revisionist history when I told him that I thought the steelers should’ve drafted Tyler Eiffert instead of Jarvis jones and kelvin Benjamin in lieu of Ryan shazier. But I told him it’s not revisionist history because at the time during each respective draft, I was calling for those two out loud to the TV before the steelers were up and as they were picking. I still hold that that’s who they should’ve picked ….thoughts? I mean could you imagine miller, eiffert, AB and Benjamin with bell and Blount in the backfield? Next year snatch the top LT with your first pick and then go defense the rest of the way. My thinking is and always has been that since it seems to take longer for defensive players to develop under lebeau, why not stack the offense at the D’s expense and at least that way you are scoring a lot of points and also giving up a lot…. But, if you go heavy on D and even partially neglect the O, then you’re not only giving up a lot, but also not scoring a lot…honestly, after BB, Bell and AB and perhaps miller, i dint find there to be a whole lot of talent on offense when they could’ve just went for broke, stacked the o with those two guys and then folded in a plethora of defensive talent next year and the year after.
