2. The defense came away with two key takeaways to save face and the game.
It hasn’t happened in a while, but the Steelers defense earned the win on Sunday. Cortez Allen and Brice McCain took advantage of opportunities where Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles made mental errors. McCain’s interception was made at a pivotal moment when the Steelers needed momentum to swing in their favor.
The defense has shared as much criticism this season as the offense due to inconsistent play, over- and under-pursuit issues, poor timing and blown coverages. On Sunday, the defense threw a little more pressure at the Jaguars with Lawrence Timmons and Jason Worilds, but still aren’t near as strong up front as they have been in the past. This defense didn’t dominate, but it kept the Steelers above the waterline. Time for LeBeau to turn up the heat before the Steelers drown.
