1. Pittsburgh must improve its offensive performance, especially in the red zone.
We’ve been hearing that free-agent Lance MMoore was going to give the Steelers a red zone target since the off season. What we’ve seen is something more like Puxatawny Phil – glimpses but no real appearance. Is Moore hibernating? Ben Roethlisberger could have benefitted from a more diverse number of offensive targets, but instead he was forced to mainly rely on four guys: Le’Veon Bell, LeGarrett Blount, Heath Miller and Antonio Brown.
It seemed like a no-brainer that Tomlin and Haley would want the offense to punch the ball into the end zone on the ground, but instead Roethlisberger looked for open receivers. Then, so close they could practically reach out and touch the turf just across the line, Roethlisberger gets sacked. Not just sacked, stripped of the ball as well.
In the game, red zone efficiency was pretty much as it has been all season – pitiful. The Steelers converted just one in four trips into a touchdown. NFL teams live and die in the red zone. More focus needs to be placed on that issue moving forward unless the Steelers enjoy watching Shaun Suisham kick field goals.
