There were many players worthy of receiving player of the week honors, but the outstanding play of Le’Veon Bell simply can’t be overlooked. With his stellar play Bell is the SteelersGab Player of the Week.
As usual, the Pittsburgh Steelers went to Bell early and often to create a flow for the offense. Bell displayed his skills once again as a receiver, blocker and runner. Bell’s size and speed was simply too much for the Carolina Panthers defense. Bell rushed for 147 yards, including a franchise record 81-yard run. Bell showed great patience behind am offensive line dealing with injuries, penalties and inconsistencies.
With Bell opening up the offense it allowed Legarrette Blount to rush for over a 100 yards as well. The twenty-plus pond weight added to his frame clearly is paying big dividends as Bell has more of an explosive burst through the hole behind blockers. With Bell being so efficient with his carries, it opened up the offense in the red zone as Antonio Brown scored two touchdowns in that area as well. Blount was also able to rush for a score.
So far this season, Bell has been one of the top running backs in the NFL in receiving and rushing. With his performance Sunday night, Bell is ascending up the elite ladder of running backs quicker and quicker. As Bell continues to improve, the offense will expand, allowing the second-year rusher to become more of a threat every time he touches the football.
