The Steelers went into the 2014 NFL Draft with one thing in mind – speed.
They got the job done in round one with defense with the pick of Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier, who came to terms with the team and will be in the fold from days one.
The offense also will get an infusion of speed with the additions of RB Dri Archer and wideout Martavis Bryant. Some seem to think that Archer will line up more at WR than at RB, but that remains to be seen.
One player who likes the addition of speed is QB Ben Roethlisberger, who spoke about it at the teams latest OTA’s.
“I think we have a lot of speed,” said Roethlisberger. “That’s running the ball, that’s throwing the ball, whatever. I want us to be fast and put a lot of points on the board.”
While maybe he was early in the season, Ben wasn’t the problem as the team made a near miracle run at the postseason, throwing for 4,261 yards and being a huge part of the teams late success.
Now he’s got more weapons, and it looks like the offense could be as diverse as ever with not only Archer and Bryant, but also the addition of LeGarrette Blount.
“I love being out here. I love the game,” Roethlisberger said. “I’m excited about this team and the direction we’re headed.”
