College career notes
Richardson had a rocky start to his college career, signing with UCLA before some off the field incidents landed him in hot water. After getting himself together, Richardson transferred to Arizona where he put together a solid career as a rangy cornerback.
Richardson started 37 of 49 games, with a tackles total of 189 (142 solo), eight of which were for a loss. He recorded ten interceptions, returning them for coincidence, 131 yards. He added 30 passes broken up, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Steelers defensive backs coach Carnell Lake stated that Richardson is a “good size and is aggressive with bump and run coverage.”
Lake recruited Richardson to play at UCLA, but both men left the organization in different ways. When asked about their reunion in the NFL, Lake said, “It’s just a coincidence but it’s a small world I guess.” The Steelers had Richardson in for a pre-draft visit and felt that he could keep up with the receivers.

Hoping the only thing he steals from now on is passes from opposing teams. Steelers wouldn’t let Lake take a chance with him if he hasn’t matured I’d think.
