Steelers wide receivers Markus Wheaton, Justin Brown, and Derek Moye traveled to Irvine, California last week at the request of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger according to Chris Bradford of the Beaver County Times.
The mission of the trip was to help the young receivers work on timing and develop chemistry with the two-time Super Bowl champion QB. The workouts were very informal without shoulder pads.
“It was really about (Roethlisberger) getting a feel for some of us a little bit more,” Moye said. “We ran some different routes that he wanted to work with us individually on.”
Wheaton in particular could see a dramatically increased role in the Steelers offense in his second year if free agents Emmanuel Sanders and/or Jerricho Cotchery end up leaving Pittsburgh.
