From one of the loudest voices on the field to the Steelers coaching staff – that’s the route Joey Porter is taking to coming back to the Steelers.
Known for his #55 jersey and mouth that ticked off opposing players and fans, Porter is coming back to help out Mike Tomlin’s staff for the 2014 season.
Porter is joining the team as a defensive assistant according to Bob Labriola of Steelers Digest.
The story says that Porter will help out the Steelers OLB’s, led by Jarvis Jones, last seasons first-round draft pick.
The 36-year-old Porter assisted the Colorado State coaching staff in 2013.
He was a stud on the Steelers defense for eight seasons, helping the team to a Super Bowl title in the 2005 season, the last for Jerome Bettis.
Porter played in 2006 with the Steelers, but was released the offseason of 2007 when Tomlin was hired. He was let go less than two months into the reign of Tomlin.
