When you see a player picked up for the practice squad, it usually goes rather unnoticed.
Wednesday the Steelers did just that, but running back Ray Graham isn’t exactly a player who hasn’t seen much football, he’s a guy that will see action for the Steelers.
At some point.
According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Graham wasn’t signed just to go out and take hits every week, he was signed to eventually make it to the teams 53-man roster.
The rookie halfback from Pitt was on the Houston Texans 53-man roster for two weeks, but was recently let go when the team inked Ricky Sapp, who was with the Jets.
Graham was going to go back to the Texans practice squad, but came to the Steelers with an assurance that he will make it to the roster in a few weeks when he learns the offense.
So with that said, Bouchette says the player that likely will be sent home once Graham gets promoted is that of Felix Jones, who has been rather silent as the Steelers have suddenly won four of their last six.
With the Steelers the former Cowboys first-round pick and Eagles back has just 36 rushing attempts for 128 yards, a 3.6 yards per carry average.
He has no scores, eight catches for 59 yards and he taken back 15 kicks, putting up an average for 23.5 yards per kick.
Graham sounds like a perfect third-down change of pace back for the Steelers, he’s just 5-9, and 194 pounds.
Let’s see if Bouchette is right on his prediction, and more so if Graham can make any sort of impact once he lands on the 53-man roster.
