Linebacker Sean Spence has been chomping at the bit to get back on the field, and it looks like that hope is going to be fulfilled soon.
The Tribune-Review is reporting that Spence is going to start back on the practice field, and that time for him to be back is next week.
When Spence does take the field, it will be for the first time since suffering a left knee injury during last year’s last preseason game.
The promising young player tore the anterior cruciate, posterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments and suffered a dislocated knee cap that caused peroneal nerve damage.
He’s been working hard to get back, and maybe his return will inspire the defense to reach a lot higher levels than they have been thus far in 2013.
“I don’t feel like I am rushing myself back,” the former third-round pick said. “I am going to see how I feel when I practice. If everything goes good, I’ll go from there and take it one day at a time.”
The Steelers will have three weeks after taking him off the PUP list if they want to add him to the 53-man roster or place him on the season-ending injured reserve list.
