The date was January 9th, 2012.
The Steelers had just lost a heart-breaking wild card playoff game to the Denver Broncos thanks to a career day for then Denver QB Tim Tebow.
The team was filled with injuries, distraught over the loss, and the future for a number of the players was in doubt – like future Hall of Famer Hines Ward (who eventually retired).
With Steeler Nation in mourning, one of the young Steelers pulled off a rather head scratching move – that being center Maurkice Pouncey, who didn’t play in the playoff game due to injury.
The center sent out a tweet after the loss that you had to basically see to believe – Go f*&k wit my nigga @YoGottiKOM and Pre-Order #LiveFromDaKitchen From iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/us/preorder/live-from-the-kitchen/id489929216
Mind you the tweet was cleaned up, as Pouncey didn’t seem to mind throwing out the “F” bomb in the tweet.
He took a lot of heat from the tweet, and wasn’t afraid to fire back at fans with things like “unfollow me then loser!!”
Fast forward 18 months, and due to another player in the league who today is sitting in a jail cell, we are finding more about the past and character of Pouncey, and how it could be a huge concern for the Steelers and their future.
ESPN reported that the Steelers center was with his twin brother, Dolphins center Mike Pouncey, and now jailed former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez at a Gainesville, Fla., nightclub in 2007 when a fight broke out.
It wasn’t just a little brawl either, it ended when two men being wounded by gun fire, and Hernandez is being investigated as the shooter in the fight.
Reading into the report, neither Pouncey’s were part of the alleged shooting, but former Jags safety Reggie Nelson, who was also in the bar with the group, did talk about a connection between the Pouncey’s and the victim in the shooting.
Neither Pouncey was named in the police report for any reason.
Sure looking back it could be simply chalked up as ‘kids being kids,’ but now that we know all we do about Hernandez, and looking back at the above ‘tweets’ about Pouncey and some questions in his character, isn’t there cause for some concern?
Pouncey is a former first-round pick for the Steelers, and as the center is supposed to be the anchor of the offensive line. He’s been injured already more than once, and the report from ESPN doesn’t paint him in the best of light.
Make your own determination on Pouncey and his brother, from where I sit and from what I see – it’s not good.

A six year old fight and one “tweet”! I think you may be reaching a bit on this one…

No, there is absolutely no cause for concern, at least among reasonable Steelers fans. He’d done nothing but excel both on the field and in the locker-room since he arrived and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

Do you McCarthy much?
I mean seriously – what are you trying to say in this article? Insinuation is coward journalism.
Why don’t you just come out and say it? Pouncy is a bad person? He and his brother are both equivalent to a murder suspect.
And the tweet as evidence of what? I know quite a few people who curse. And most of them are good Christians….so grow up and if you can’t back your opinions up with sufficient facts and evidence, then keep them to yourself.

He stayed clear of this bulls@#$ and Florida bars for 5 and 1/2 years, he likely learned a lesson, I’m just glad he got the Jack Lambert in him and he’s teachin it his O line brothers like DeCastro, because DeCastro came into the league a pussy.

We all make silly mistakes.. I’m not gonna slag him for that and hopefully the Steelers will not either. The Upside is it underlines that Maurkice IS a LOYAL person no matter what. Sure, AH isn’t exactly a model citizen but he must of been ‘good enough’ to hang with back in the day … I’m sure we know of someone who hasn’t done good in recent times.. what is one to do? Maurkice obviously let him emotional side get the better of him. That’s all.
