I wasn’t too happy with this year’s draft. I was much more excited about last year’s. in my opinion the steelers whiffed in the first round. I think the first round goes to guaranteed starters you should be able to rely on for 5-10 years. To me…that guy was Shariff Floyd or Tyler Eifert. Both were top talent without spinal stenosis. I hope JJ has a long and productive career but I think picking him was too big a risk in round 1.(especially when he beefs up and his back needs to carry more weight)

Second round, I was ok with Bell. BUT I thought there was more value to Franklin in the 4th.Plus I felt like RB wasn’t a major need. Redman and Dwyer were both good when healthy. I felt as if they both just had bad luck from a health standpoint.Bradshaw was also a possibility for relatively cheap.

I liked Wheaton in the third.

Getting shamarko was a good move…. Didn’t like how they gave up next year’s third rounder though…I’ve been thinking that we should’ve brought Woodson in from GB for depth so there wouldn’t be such a huge dropoff at the position.if we could get him for a vet min or a little more could’ve been good.

I don’t understand why we didn’t wait till the 6th or 7 th round to draft a QBE with how they fell.liked the gambles in the later rounds…but we’re not expecting too much there.im rooting for Golic Jr of the undrafteds.GO STEELERS!

I wouldn’t call it a whiff in first round because the Steelers didn’t draft a day 1 starter, the last 2 players to come in and do that were Heath and Pouncey. Obviously with all the injuries lately the Steelers would’ve looked hard at Jarvis Jones spine, I like how the Steelers drafted predominantly injury free players al with good character, I hope it pays off.

Wasn’t saying I necessarily wanted a day one starter. just wanted a solid pick without any flags. I felt that Floyd or Eifert would’ve been better choices in round 1. Granted its football and anything can happen but it’s hard to argue against a top 5 defensive player or the top tight end for the best pass rusher with a debilitating spinal issue.(given how the game is played) I really hope I’m wrong.id love nothing more than JJ to be awesome and to be proven wrong. I’m hoping for the best, but I’m skeptical.

Eifert would have been a luxury for the beginning of the season. I wouldn’t spend a first round pick on a TE when Heath is still on the roster. I understand he is hurt, but I doubt he will be out past week 6 in a worse case scenario, so I wouldnt have spend a 1st rd pick on Eifert. I do like Eifert and am not happy about him winding up in Cinci, but Jones was the best player available at a position of need. The Steelers wouldnt of selected Jones if they werent certain his spinal condition was fine.

I don’t think Eifert would’ve been a luxury. I think heaths contract is up at the end of this season. Plus his speed and size with Heath in 2 TE sets along with Brown and Sanders wouldve been awesome. Im also concerned about those weapons for Ben. We probly lose sanders, cotchery, plax, and maybe even heath next year…this is troublesome.Plus Bens always wanted someone with size. Now we have to defend against Gresham, green, and eifert… the bengals are on the rise.

Heath Miller’s contract is up after the 2014 season, not after this year. Although, he probably will get an extension after this season.

I agree with Terry’s reasoning and I’ve been saying this all along to fellow blogger Mark that Miller and Eiffert in two TE sets woulda been awesome especially with speedy guys on the outside. The patriots offense excels with two TE and they ( sansWelker/ Amendola who primarily play inside the hashes) don’t even have speedy wideouts! I do however believe that the JJ pick kills a couple of birds with one stone because, among other things, it WIll MOST DEFINITELY push Worilds to have his best year yet! I would even go so far as to say that there’s less a chance of JJ being a bust than Worilds not improving!

I love markus Wheaton already. He is going to be a Wallace and 1/2 of brown this year with the speed. And Reggie Dunn from Utah will have 3 kick offs returned fortes if he plays
