FB David Johnson Reportedly Suffers Torn ACL

The news on the injury for FB David Johnson is NOT good, as Ed Bouchette on Twitter reports that it’s believed the injury to Johnson is a torn ACL, which of course would quickly end his 2012 season.

Johnson was hurt in the Steelers first drive of the first quarter of their 24-23 loss to the Eagles.

Johnson was in line for lead-blocking duties in Todd Haley‘s new offense. Undrafted West Virginia rookie Will Johnson is the only other fullback on the roster, so the Steelers will be forced to add another lead blocker next week.

Matt Loede has been in the sports media for over 16 years, with experience covering the MLB, NBA, and NFL. On Sunday’s during football season, you can hear Matt on national networks like Fox Sports Radio, Associated Press, and others. Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, Matt studies and talks football inside and out, and is anxious to share his thoughts and comments with readers on a daily basis.

How about Legursky? He knows all the plays, he’s played FB before, and he’s bigger than Will Johnson. The only downside is Legursky’s role as backup center. Given Pouncey’s propensity for injury, the Steelers may not want to run the risk, except in goal line situations.

John Clay is another possibility, and he would be a legitimate threat to run or catch the ball himself. But I haven’t seen enough of him to evaluate his ability to block.
