The Steelers announced they have come to terms with speedy fifth round running back Chris Rainey.
It’s a a four-year contract.
During his 53-game career at the University of Florida, the 5-foot-8, 180-pound Rainey had 2,464 yards and 13 touchdowns rushing and caught 69 passes for 795 yards and six touchdowns. Rainey was also a key performer on special teams, averaging 9.0 yards and scored two touchdowns as a punt returner, over 25 yards as a kick returner and blocking six kicks.
Rainey’s versatility should go a long way towards solidifying a spot on the Steelers’ 53-man roster this summer.
Financial details of Rainey’s contract were not disclosed, but the four-year contract is expected to have a maximum value of $2.282 million with a signing bonus of just under $182,000.
Rainey is the second Steelers draft choice to agree to terms on a contract. Fourth round nose tackle Alameda Ta’amu agreed to terms earlier on Sunday.
