Movement was made today to try and add 3,000 more seats to Heinz Field.
The Sports & Exhibition Authority board of directors today approved a resolution for the team to “further explore and plan the possible additions” to the 11-year-old stadium. It was necessary for the board to approve the resolution for the Steelers to take their proposal to the rest of the league at next month’s league meetings in Chicago.
“The first thing to be done is to be sure the NFL is in agreement,” SEA executive director Mary Conturo said.
Art Rooney II said back in January that the team wants to add the seats by the 2013 season. The seats will be added to the south end zone with tickets being offered to fans on the season ticket waiting list.
Expanded seating capacity at Heinz Field was delayed a year by the lockout.
