The Steelers have brought back offensive lineman Trai Essex. He announced today he has inked a deal with the black and gold.
“I am ecstatic to announce that I am back with the @Steelers ! There is no place like #SteelerNation #EverydayIsABlessing”, Essex wrote.
Essex was a third round pick (93rd overall) out of Northwestern by the Steelers back in 2005.
The 6-foot-5, 324-pound Essex has started 28 of 75 games over the last seven seasons, with 24 of those starts coming over the last three seasons.
After starting all 16 games in 2009, and missing all but four of 1,062 offensive snaps, Essex has played a reserve role the last two seasons, starting just eight of 28 games.

This frees up another draft pick and give us veteran back up at all three line positions, but especially at C and OG. He is better at run blocking than pass protection, but could assume a starting role if needed. Smart move.
