The Steelers have brought back WR Jerricho Cotchery, as the NY Daily News reports that Pittsburgh and Cotchery have come to terms on a two-year deal.
Last season in 13 games, Cotchery had 16 catches for 237 yards and two touchdowns, including a TD in the playoff loss to the Broncos that got tied the game in the fourth quarter.
The Jets, the team Cotchery played for from 2004-10, talked to the WR, but he decided to stay with the Steelers.
In his career, he has 374 catches for 4,751 yards and 20 TDs.

It’s good to have Cotchery back in the fold. The Cotchery and Leonard Pope signings suggest to me that the Steelers intend to shore up the offense before the draft, in order to dedicate the draft itself to shoring up the defense. It may not work out quite that neatly in reality, especially if a prime O-lineman becomes available who will help to solidify the O-line and improve the power rushing game, thereby aiding the D by keeping them off the field. But, with that lone exception, the emphasis of this year’s draft ought to be be on rebuilding the D.
For the same reason, I expect the Steelers to look for a veteran RB, FB, and back-up QB, via trade or free agency, before the draft. Mendenhall’s durability is unknown, David Johnson has yet to sign his tender, and Ben R’s own durability is an issue at age 30, given all the hits he has endured and his history of concussions. We need veterans who can contribute immediately at all three positions, with the #2 QB being the most urgent need.

Good signing for depth and a possession receiver.
O-line is a huge need early in the draft. I’d like the 1st rd and 3rd rd to be o-line and have the 2nd rd be a DT.
Hopefully Glenn in the 1st, Tammau in the 2nd, and best available o-line in 3rd

Addendum: David Johnson signed his tender, right after L. Pope signed on the dotted line. What a coincidence! That plugs the hole at FB and at TE.
Wallace is still holding out, gaming the system, but his options are rapidly diminishing to (a) don’t play or (b) take the tender. No other team thought he was worth a top pick + the money. There’s a message in that.
