Bill Cowher’s first offensive coordinator and former Giants OC Ron Erhardt passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 80.
Erhardt was the Steelers offensive coordinator from 1992-95. He passed away in Boca Raton, Florida. In his four seasons with the Steelers, he helped the team reach three divisional titles, and was the OC when the Steelers reached Super Bowl XXX against the Cowboys.
Erhardt’s offense was known for running the football, and he got Barry Foster to star status in his first season in 1992.
He also helped Neil O’Donnell reach the Pro Bowl in 1995 when the Steelers went to a passing heavy offense with a five wideout set.
Erhardt was the offensive coordinator who won two Super Bowls under Giants coach Bill Parcells. He got his shot at being a head coach of the Pats from 1979 to 1981, going 21 and 27.
