RE: Doc’s comments from below….
Respectfully Doc, i had this back and forth with Jay a few weeks ago. I think saying that Hood and Heyward not having, “…remarkable qualities” is unfair. 3-4 DE’s do not need to have remarkable qualities. Their job is not to be remarkable it is to be stout against the run. 91 and 99 have never had a lot of sacks or even QB pressures for that matter. Kimo Von bust Carson Palmer’s knee was not remarkable at all, either. I guess the expectation of what a first round pick is supposed to for a team is what has everyone disappointed in Hood and Heyward.
We need a dominant nose tackle to replace Hampton for sure. It is paramount to have another Casey Hampton type player, circa 2004. However, they are not easy to come by. We got Hampton at the end of the 1st round, i see no reason why they can’t find another at pick 32 in April. (Get it? Pick 32?) Try to keep up Bengal fans…

Well said, however we all know what a 3-4 DE is supposed to do and the fact that Hood and Hayward are inconsistent and get pushed off the line is a concerning matter. They are supposed to shut down the run and allow our linebackers to get pressure, this season we havent gotten too much pressure and the run def hasnt been up to steelers standards.

Casey was obtained with pick 19, a far cry from 32. Still, I agree a dominant nose tackle is essential

I would guess the Steelers will be looking at a guard and Nose Tackle in the 1st 2 rounds of the draft. Maybe in that order? Big Snack has productivity left but the position needs young blood. As for the guards, well… they suck! Foster is average, Legursky is a back-up and Kemo is now a liability with no upside any more. Time to improve. The Tackles are ok as long as Starks is back next year and a Colon/Gilbert battle improves that position and possibly strengthens the guard position as well.Steelers obviously will be picking in the high 20’s in April,so getting a quality player who can start right away is VERY important. If Heyward/Hood can show a bit more the rest of the way and into January, then we will all be feeling better about those areas. Personnaly I think Hood can still improve and he hasnt been a bust by any stretch. Heyward is YOUNG! Have to think he gets better as well. Anyway, from my chair, I see the need to upgrade the Guard/NT positions immediately. If I was the Steeler brass, thats where I go.I still will agree with my man Jay on the LB. If they can move Harrsion inside with Timmons and have Woodley and maybe an improving Worilds outside, it will prolong the career of Harrison and improve over Farrior/Foote. THis will solidify the LB for a few more years and there is no need to address the position for a while

If Dante Hightower is available late in the draft, do the Steelers take him, or do they take the nosetackle or guard?
