The Steelers enjoyed their second straight blowout at Heinz Field on Sunday, pounding the Titans 38-17. In their two home games in 2011 so far, they have outscored the opposition 62-17, and the good news is coming to town this week are the 1-4 Jacksonville Jaguars, who are so bad they are trying out punters Tuesday.
In fact, the Steelers enter a soft part of the slate in terms at least of playing at home. They host the 1-4 Jags Sunday, then head out to the desert, where they play old friend Ken Whisenhunt and the 1-4 Arizona Cardinals, who just lost to the formerly winless Vikings on Sunday.
It’s back to back home games after that, but two teams that if the Steelers are going to reach the promise land of Super Bowl XLVI in February, at some point these are the two teams they will have to deal with – the Patriots and the Ravens.
The Pats are in town on October 30th for a 4:15pm game, and then it’s the rematch with the Ravens the following Sunday night at 8:15. The team will then play at Cincy before finally getting their bye week on November 20th.
If the team can find a way to sweep the next five games, there’s no doubt that the early season issues will be put to rest if they entered the bye week at 8-2. On the other hand, that’s a long way from now, and with injuries and other things that have to be dealt with, just getting to 4-2 this Sunday would be nice to see based on where the team was at a week ago.
