The Steelers want to lock up linebacker LaMarr Woodley for a long time, and today the former Michigan Wolverine stated that he and the team were talking about a long term deal.
It was back after the Super Bowl loss in February that the team made Woodley the franchise player, inking him to a one-year, $10 million contract By signing Woodley to a long-term deal, the Steelers would reduce their salary-cap hit for this season on the pass-rushing specialist, which is something they really want to do to free up cap space.
Last season Woodley had 10 sacks. It was the third straight season the 26-year-old had reached double digits in sacks. He and James Harrison are two of the best OLB’s in the game, and getting Woodley locked up is a big key to what the Steelers want to do in the future.
