Today it’s our fourth installment of ranking the current Steelers 1 through 50. If you want to check out numbers 35 through 39, check it out HERE. Today we give you 34 through 30.
34. Byron Leftwich Quarterback
Last season Leftwich was supposed to be the teams starter when Ben Roethlisberger was suspended for the first four games of the season. Then bad luck hit when he was hurt in the final preseason game vs the Panthers. All the vet did was sit the bench all season, and then made a mop up appearance in the teams final regular season game blowout win over Cleveland, going 5-for-7 for 42 yards. Depending on the future of Dennis Dixon, he’s probably going to be the teams backup again in 2011, and the coaching staff does like what he brings to the table.
33. Matt Spaeth Tight End
The teams third round pick in 2007 has been an asset blocking mostly the past three seasons, but again, the coaching staff likes what he does and he will never be a star, but does enough to earn playing time. Last year in 14 games he had 9 grabs for 80 yards with a score. His worst moment of the year came on the final play in the regular season loss to the Jets, as he was the intended receiver. Another season mostly blocking and making maybe 5-12 catches is probably in order for the tight end.
32. Will Allen Safety
The former Buccaneer safety played his first season in Pittsburgh in 2010, playing in 14 games, making 12 tackles. He also played quite a bit on special teams, making a number of tackles. He’s a backup for a reason, and unless injury hits again in 2011, he’ll be back on the bench mostly playing on special teams.
31. Larry Foote Linebacker
Back home in the Steel City in 2011, Foote brought a veteran presence to the inside LB position, but ended up only making a total of 22 tackles, 16 solo, in 16 games. With Lawrence Timmons and James Farrior being the two starters in the middle, the need for Foote just isn’t there. Stevenson Sylvester also cut into playing time for Foote, and there’s a thought he may not be back in 2011.
30. Isaac Redmen Running Back
Last season was a good one for Redmen, who ran for 247 yards and scored maybe the biggest TD of the year, a 3rd down catch of a Big Ben pass and a broken tackle to score the game-winning TD in the 13-10 win over the Ravens. He was big as a 3rd down, short-yardage back, and also showed skills catching 9 passes for 72 yards. Here’s hoping that Redmen gets more chances to carry in 2011.
Next: 29-25
