There’s some more evidence that if the Steelers are going to sign a former New York Giant this offseason, it’s going to be wide out Plaxico Burress, not running back Tiki Barber.
Take the words today of QB Ben Roethlisberger, who says that he’s chatted with Burress about his return to the NFL a few times since his release from prison.
“I’ve talked to Plax a number of times in the last couple of weeks. I told him, ‘Hey if you came back here that would be awesome but I’m just happy to see you playing again’ because he’s a good guy,” Roethlisberger said.
There’s no doubt that the players would be on board to get Burress back. The team would have another threat on offense in a place where Burress feels comfortable. While the club already has two starting WR’s in Hines Ward and Mike Wallace, there’s also two young and talented WR’s on the roster in Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders.
So does Plax even fit on this roster? The Steelers may or may not find out once the lockout ends. If he does, it’s going to give Roethlisberger another target, and the Steelers another vet that can make some big plays when needed.
