The price for Ike Taylor.
It’s yet another interesting sidebar to the free agency signing period for the Steelers, as they, along with the rest of the league, sit back and wait to see if a new CBA is going to get done before March 4th.
James Walker of ESPN says that with the Raiders overpaying, per usual, for CB Stanford Routt, to the point of giving him $10 mil per season, the Steelers starting CB may get greedy as he starts to look around the league, as there’s simply no way the Steelers are going to give Taylor $10 mil a season.
Here’s what Walker says in his piece.
Would Taylor ask for more than $10 million per season? If so, it becomes questionable that he would return to Pittsburgh. It’s also possible Taylor, who spent his entire career in Pittsburgh, would accept a “home-team discount,” despite the high going rate for corners.
We won’t have any firm answers until the NFL and NFLPA reaches a new collective bargaining agreement. But keep an eye on this development in Pittsburgh.
Here’s my thinking to the Taylor situation. He looks around, and doesn’t find nearly the market he thinks he does. The Steelers give him an offer of about $6 mil a season for 3 years with a $4 mil bonus. If he takes it – that’s all up to him.

10 mil per season opens the door to not signing vets in favor of lower priced rookies. And in this era of high unemployment across the US, it’s going to look like player greed gone wild should owners force a lockout.
