Steelers defensive end Ziggy Hood underwent surgery to clean bone spurs out of his ankle, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. A first-round pick out of Missouri in 2009, Hood (6-3, 300) started nine games in place of Aaron Smith in 2010, totaling 20 tackles and three quarterback sacks.
Hood added 10 tackles and two quarterback sacks in the post-season. Six members of the Steelers, including linebacker James Harrison and wide receiver/”Dancing With the Stars” contestant Hines Ward, have undergone surgery since the Steelers’ 31-25 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV.
