An MRI for defensive end Aaron Smith will in the end determine if he can go Sunday in Super Bowl XLV between the Steelers and Packers. Smith ruptured his triceps way back on October 24th against the Dolphins, and hasn’t played since.
All this time the Steelers have been saving a roster spot in the hopes that he would be able to rejoin the team at some point this postseason. Doctors and the Steelers are hoping that the MRI provides clarity as to whether Smith can play against Green Bay.
Smith has been limited in practice participation the past three weeks.
Ziggy Hood has been playing well for the injured Smith, as the former first round pick, has made his first nine career starts, grabbing four sacks, including one in the postseason, coming in the Steelers’ 31-24 divisional round playoff win over the Ravens.

If Smith cannot play will the Steelers place him in IR and sign Justin Hartwig as a backup?
