Pouncey Puts on a Cast on Injured Ankle

All-Pro center Maurkice Pouncey showed up at the teams facility on Wednesday wearing a cast over his injured right ankle and moving around gingerly on crutches. Clearly despite it being still a week and a few days away, it’s not a good sign for him to try and go in Super Bowl XLV against the Packers.

Pouncey hurt the ankle on Sunday in the Steelers 24-19 win over the Jets in the AFC Title game at Heinz Field. He left the game in the first half and watching the second half on crutches. He said after the game that the injury was similar to one he had in his left ankle, and played through, earlier in the year.

“I had the same injury before on my other ankle, and I know how to attack it. I know how to approach things,” Pouncey said back on Sunday. The Steelers confirmed Wednesday that X-rays on Pouncey’s ankle came back negative, meaning he suffered no broken bones, which of course is good news.

Casting an ankle can be a procedural step to immobilize the leg and keep Pouncey from moving around. Hopefully he will get better as the week and into next week goes, and will find a way to be on the field for the big game.
