Smith Still Not Expected to Take the Field vs the Jets

It still doesn’t sound like the team is going to play around with getting Aaron Smith back on the field for Sunday’s home AFC Title Game vs the Jets. According to Gerry Dulac of the Post-Gazette is not expected to play against the Jets, even though he was listed only as doubtful Friday on the injury report.

Smith has not practiced in team drills since he returned to light workouts during the bye week, and players returning from a long-term injury typically won’t dress for a game until they have had two weeks of practice.

The Steelers are holding a roster spot for Smith because he is one of their most beloved players and they want to give him every opportunity to possibly play, even in a limited role, in the Super Bowl.

Matt Loede has been in the sports media for over 16 years, with experience covering the MLB, NBA, and NFL. On Sunday’s during football season, you can hear Matt on national networks like Fox Sports Radio, Associated Press, and others. Scary thinking about it this way. Last time a player was in this situation it was Rod Woodson. If I remember correctly, he came back and played in the Super Bowl, and played well. However, Steelers still lost the Super Bowl. Hopefully history will not repeat itself.
