If you wonder just how good the Steelers are vs former AFC Central and now AFC North foes in the postseason – chew on the following:
* The Steelers are 8-0 in the postseason against division opponents since the 1970 NFL merger.
* They are 2-0 vs Baltimore, wins coming in the 2008 AFC Title game and the 2001 Divisional Round.
* They are 1-0 vs Cincinnati, winning in the Wild Card round on January 8th, 2006 when they knocked Carson Palmer out in a 31-17 win.
* They are 2-0 vs Cleveland, winning in the divisional round in 1994, and again in the Wild Card round in 2002.
* They were 3-0 vs the Houston Oilers – winning in back to back AFC Title games in 1979 and 1980, and in the wild card game in 1989 in OT when Gary Anderson hit a 50-yard field goal. It was Chuck Noll’s last playoff win as coach.
* The only time in their history they have lost a postseason game against a division opponent came in 1947, when they and the Philadelphia Eagles tied for first place in the Eastern Division of the then-two division NFL. Philadelphia won the playoff, 21-0, to determine which advanced to the championship game.

Great stats but they are completly meaningless. Going to be a tough game and tough to get the win. It will probably come down to a couple of big plays.

As excited for the game that I maybe, I am just a bit concerned. I am fully confident that the Steelers will win, however this game is going to be a hard fought battle. What concerns me is the health of the Steelers after the game going into New England.

I got two of the playoff games wrong, I thought the Saints would beat Seattle and I picked Indy over the Jets. I don’t think Seattle has a betting chance against Chicago and I don’t like the Jets chances against the Pats. However, I would have much preferred to have the Ravens going to Foxboro this weekend to soften the Pats up for the Steelers. Now the Ravens and Steelers are going to beat up on each other again, and that is always a war. I share The Tony’s concern about the health of either team when it goes to Foxboro the following weekend, as I wrote here before the wild card games.
All this simply means the Steelers will have to do all the heavy lifting themselves, now. If we win the Super Bowl this year, no one will be able to say we had it easy. And, barring a key injury, if the Steelers can beat the Ravens and New England on back to back weekends, they will win the Super Bowl game against the NFC champions. And they will deserve it.
